Presentation
Caroline Dahlberg defended her PhD thesis in Sociology in January 2011, which explores how ethical limits of advertising are decided by the advertising industries’ self-regulatory bodies in the UK and Sweden. The PhD thesis studied how different principles of evaluation were handled in decision processes, in which people take other people’s interpretations and evaluations into account. Caroline Dahlberg’s research interest is, subsequently, how principles of evaluation are shaped and coordinated in different social settings.

One question of central importance to explore is what conventions of evaluation we depend on, and how they are shaped in our daily practices, and another important question is how we relate to other people (sometimes in the shape of organizations or actions) to justify our actions and make others see the value of our actions. In her postdoc project, Caroline Dahlberg investigates the work practices of university teachers, which is described below. Caroline Dahlberg has experience of university teaching at all levels of Sociology since 2005, as supervisor and examiner of degree essays, as well as in theory and method courses.

Teaching
Supervising and examination of degree essays, at CeSam.

Research
Caroline Dahlberg’s postdoc project at CeSam analyses how university teachers experience and handle conflicts between different principles of evaluation, in their teaching practices. The project is an interview study, exploring this aspect of university teachers’ everyday work, to understand the learning processes of university teaching, which will help to shed light on different pedagogical dilemmas and challenges.
